I sit on my stairs and cry.
My face is red, my head pounds, I don’t know what to do.
It’s so hard.
Why can’t I make this decision?
I want to.
But I can’t… I can’t…
Are you ever like this?
Do you work yourself up, agonising over a decision?
You could procrastinate… do you have to decide today?
You could ignore it until you feel more like making the choice. But when will you? Feel like it?
The good news is, it doesn’t have to be like this.
Here’s are 4 Insanely Simple Steps To making That Decision.
1. Start at the beginning.
- How important is it to decide now?
- Is there a deadline?
- Is it possible to put it off for a few days?
2. Do your ‘homework’.
- No important decision can be made without information.
- Find out as much as you can about the topic -
Make a list of questions to ask them, to help you decide. Keep your list handy and add to it as you go through your day.
Search the net and go to relevant Forums to read what others have said/done/discovered about this area.
Don’t be afraid to ask people who know more than you do. If this decision is important to you, you need all the information you can get.
3. Listen to your feelings.
I’m a great believer in the power of your instincts.
Imagine each of your choices.
Would you feel relieved or disappointed if you said ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘maybe’?
What are your instincts telling you?
4. Remember, it’s your choice, no-one else’s.
People will try to influence you – family, colleagues, friends – they’ll all have an opinion. But it’s only that! An opinion!
You’ll know when you’re ready to make the decision.
You’ll feel calm, relieved, you’ll smile a lot (!), and you’ll even get your appetite back!
But if you don’t feel ready, don’t do it. Wait until you feel sure.
A wise friend of mine said, ‘When you don’t know what to do, do nothing. Wait, and it will become clear.’
How about you?
